Priory notes for week beginning 9th March 2020

The pop-in café will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon in New College Hall (NCH) on Thursday 12thMarch.

Owing to low attendance, prayer group has been temporarily suspended. The situation will be reviewed in May 2020.

SBYC will meet in NCH at 7 p.m on Friday 13th March. The Lent lunches will continue this Saturday (14th March) from 12 noon to 2 p.m in NCH. Everyone is most welcome to come and enjoy home-made soup with bread and cheese. Donations this year will benefit the NSPCC (St Bees branch) and Macmillan Cancer Support.

There is a confirmation service at St Leonard’s Cleator on Sunday 15th March at 3 p.m.

The Sunday Evening Youth Group will meet at 6 pm in the vicarage.

With the on-going threat of the Coronavirus, the Archbishops have now issued updated guidance in a letter to all clergy.

“ It is our view, in light of the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, that it is now necessary to suspend the administration of the chalice as well as physical contact during the sharing of the peace, blessing or “laying on of hands”.

We therefore advise that all priests should:-

                      ∙ Offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated                                     bread/wafer/host, with the priest alone taking the wine;

                      ∙ suspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the                  peace;

                      ∙ suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’. “
