bega_priory_viewSt Bees Priory, a Grade I Listed Building is one of the UK’s finest mediaeval churches still in regular use by the community and visitors. It has an 1895 Willis organ, one of the top 100 organs in the country, and hosts extensive displays about the village, the Priory, St Bees Man, & St Bees School.

Contrary to popular opinion, it receives no funding from the Church of England – indeed it is expected to pay towards the cost of training priests as well as the salary of their incumbent. The cost of daily management, as well as the cost of maintaining this beautiful and important building, is dependant on the congregation and donations from visitors.roof_repair_1 For major projects, we have to apply to funding bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, Copeland Community Fund and others for support. This can often be difficult – many exclude applications from churches, other are trying to help thousands of equally deserving projects.

We therefore do need your  support and hope that you will consider donating towards our maintenance and repair costs. As a guide, the average cost of looking after this building averages out at just under £10 an hour.
If you would like to help, you can donate by sending a cheque (made out to St Bees Priory PCC)  to our treasurer or, perhaps more conveniently, via our JustGiving page. justgiving_banner

You may also give via your phone – Text STB11 followed by your chosen amount to 70070.

e.g. Send to 70070 Message STBP11 £10

All profits go to the Priory. Remember to make your donation Gift Aided if you are a tax payer. It adds 25% to your donation at no cost to you.
